News & blogs B&Q Volunteers create a garden to treasure at Enham Trust Nestled in the picturesque Enham Alamein countryside, our care homes, Michael House and William House sit alongside Elizabeth House, one of our Supported Living services, surrounded by generous green spaces that play an important role in everyday life for our care residents. At the heart of this setting is their shared gardens, a much‑loved area that was ready for a little extra care and attention. B&Q employee John Townend has a long‑standing connection with Enham Trust, having worked in our Finance Team 11 years ago. B&Q colleagues are encouraged to nominate causes close to their hearts for colleague community days, and John proudly put Enham Trust forward, helping to spark a partnership that would go on to create something truly meaningful for the disabled community at Enham Trust. On 21 April, we were fortunate to enjoy a beautiful spring day as 21 eager B&Q volunteers came together to help transform our care home gardens. With energy and enthusiasm, the team tackled overgrown areas, weeded borders and jet‑washed patio spaces, restoring them to their former glory. Before and after photos of the gardens Existing benches and barriers were refreshed with bright, inviting coats of paint, while new and improved bedding areas were brought to life with a range of stunning, colourful flowers. The volunteers also installed several new features in the space, including large planters and trellis archways, alongside newly planted climbing plants that will gradually grow and trail across the structures. We’re very much looking forward to watching these spaces continue to flourish over the coming months. John Townend says: "B&Q is all about Better Homes. Better Lives. For Everyone, so we were thrilled to be able to help build a space that everyone at Enham Trust can enjoy together. All teams across B&Q take part in community days throughout the year and, whilst this is our first project in partnership with Enham Trust, we very much hope it will be the first of many!" To complete the transformation, B&Q kindly donated a brand‑new barbecue and our care residents are already so excited to organise summer gatherings with their loved ones. This collective effort has helped to create a vibrant and relaxing outdoor area that our residents and their families can enjoy for many years to come, a true reflection of the power of community and generosity. Ranga Mugabe, Senior Care Home Manager at Enham Trust says: "We are incredibly grateful to the amazing B&Q staff volunteers for their time, effort, and generosity. Their hard work has transformed our garden into a welcoming and uplifting space that our residents can truly enjoy. The donation of the BBQ stand was a thoughtful touch that will bring people together and create many happy moments. Thank you for making such a meaningful difference to the people we support at Enham." From all of us at Enham Trust, thank you B&Q, your time and hard work is so incredibly appreciated.
